React Business Dashboards: Make the Next Action Clear

An ERP dashboard is a working surface. People return to it to approve a request, find an invoice, check attendance, or correct a record. The interface should make those tasks understandable without requiring users to remember where everything lives.

My frontend work spans React dashboards and business applications. These are a few design checks I find useful when thinking about an operational screen.

Show the action that matters

A request list should make pending items easy to distinguish from completed ones. Use a written status alongside color, and give the most relevant action a clear label. “Approve request” tells a user more than an unlabeled icon.

Not every row needs every possible action. Put occasional operations in a secondary menu and keep the main task easy to scan.

Design loading, empty, and error states

The screen is not finished when the successful API response looks good. A first-time user may have no records. A filter may produce no matches. A request may fail while someone is trying to save.

Those situations need different messages. “No purchase requests yet” can offer a creation action; “No matching requests” should help the user adjust filters. A failed save should preserve entered information where possible and explain how to try again.

Make validation specific

If an entered quantity is invalid, place the message beside that field and explain the expected value. Avoid relying only on a notification that disappears before the user can read it.

For important changes, show what was saved and where the user can find it again. Clear feedback can matter just as much as a fast interaction.

Keep permissions understandable

The backend must enforce access rules. The frontend can also explain why an action is unavailable when that explanation is useful, such as a request already awaiting approval.
